URANUS

With the sphere of Uranus we leave the solar system proper and enter a zone of transition between the solar system and the galaxy. Saturn's traditionalism and conventionality can be seen as a kind of protective shell around the solar system. As long as we live within its boundaries we are relatively safe to develop our personal and social potentials. But some aspect of us and of the universe we live in is also represented by Uranus, which beckons us to go beyond the relative safety of well-worn paths, to turn our circular ruts into never closing spirals.

When Saturn's responsibilities are (or are in the process of being) fulfilled, opportunities for innovation, originality and transformation may appear. These may come in the form of crises, for Uranus is often associated (at least in astrologers' minds) with sudden disasters and accidents (although many people, astrologers included, would say that there are no accidents).

If merely calling a crisis an opportunity doesn't help at first, we can endeavor to make it so, at least after the fact, by opening ourselves to the changes it brings, by allowing the changes to deepen and broaden our range of understanding and responses to life. The main problem with meeting crises is that we tend to do so with the intent of returning everything to 'normal' as soon as we can.

A Uranian crisis has been truly worthwhile only when we don't return to normal afterwards, but are somehow permanently ennobled and transformed by the experience. When we cannot cooperate positively with what Uranus represents, anarchy, rebellion for no constructive purpose, or irresponsibility may result.

URANUS IN PISCES

Uranus spends about seven years in each sign as it moves around the zodiac, so is in that sign for everyone born during that period. All planets are important in the birth and progressed charts, but a sign influence which is identical for so many people does not indicate personal characteristics which will dominate an individual unless, of course, Uranus is a personal planet. Instead, it is what is known as a "generation" influence.

The principles of Uranus and the characteristics of Pisces couldn't be more different. Yet this individual is likely to have inspired idealism and can view problems with objectivity and even vision, but also with real human kindness and sympathy. It is here that we see a rapport between the planet and the sign: Pisces sacrifices much for the good of others, and Uranus is the most humanitarian of planets.

Here is originality, imagination and inspiration marvelous for someone who is creative or inventive. Any emphasis on Pisces may cause evasive or escapist action - a possibility even with the increased logic of this placing, especially if the subject is quite gullible and likes to be considered fashionable.

There will then be an instinct to follow the trend, which may be a negative drug or drink taking one.

If so, the tense side of Uranus will emerge, causing emotional strain and tension. However, this is only likely for very sensitive people with escapist or self-deceptive tendencies elsewhere in their charts.

At its best this is an interesting placing, contributing some fascinating and helpful characteristics, even to those who do not have the planet very powerfully placed in their charts.
