URANUS

With the sphere of Uranus we leave the solar system proper and enter a zone of transition between the solar system and the galaxy. Saturn's traditionalism and conventionality can be seen as a kind of protective shell around the solar system. As long as we live within its boundaries we are relatively safe to develop our personal and social potentials. But some aspect of us and of the universe we live in is also represented by Uranus, which beckons us to go beyond the relative safety of well-worn paths, to turn our circular ruts into never closing spirals.

When Saturn's responsibilities are (or are in the process of being) fulfilled, opportunities for innovation, originality and transformation may appear. These may come in the form of crises, for Uranus is often associated (at least in astrologers' minds) with sudden disasters and accidents (although many people, astrologers included, would say that there are no accidents).

If merely calling a crisis an opportunity doesn't help at first, we can endeavor to make it so, at least after the fact, by opening ourselves to the changes it brings, by allowing the changes to deepen and broaden our range of understanding and responses to life. The main problem with meeting crises is that we tend to do so with the intent of returning everything to 'normal' as soon as we can.

A Uranian crisis has been truly worthwhile only when we don't return to normal afterwards, but are somehow permanently ennobled and transformed by the experience. When we cannot cooperate positively with what Uranus represents, anarchy, rebellion for no constructive purpose, or irresponsibility may result.

URANUS IN GEMINI

Uranus spends about seven years in each sign as it moves around the zodiac, so is in that sign for everyone born during that period. All planets are important in the birth and progressed charts, but a sign influence which is identical for so many people does not indicate personal characteristics which will dominate an individual unless, of course, Uranus is a personal planet. Instead, it is what is known as a "generation" influence.

This is an excellent, very dynamic and lively placing, endowing originality, quick thinking and often brilliant ideas, which one is encouraged to think through carefully and eventually develop to the full.

If the chart veers towards the intellectual, with Mercury and Jupiter well-placed by sign as well as aspect, this influence will blend in, adding spiciness, a sharp attitude and quick responses, especially in argument and debate.

It is also good for the person who works in the media or follows any sort of literary or academic career. The technical areas of communications will also be of interest.

The restless, nervous side of Gemini and the tension of Uranus can cause problems, especially if Uranus receives squares or oppositions from the Sun, Moon or Mercury, or if it is in negative aspect to the Ascendant. If so, such an aspect, plus this sign placing, may be a potential source of tension and sometimes distress, since the individual will become very worried when finding it difficult to relax, sleep properly or put problems to one side. A relaxation technique or yoga may help.

If Mars is involved there may be migraines, or nasty headaches at the very least. However, on the whole Uranus is in an excellent mood here.
